Retail Branch Optimization takes a critical role in the consulting work for Financial Institutes. The dashboard presented below is a subset of tools using for analyzing the branch competing environment to help further analysis and decision making.

What is the Competitor Bank Branch Locator? and what it is used for?

Competitor Bank Branch Locator helps to find what are the other bank branches(with detailed information) around the selected branch in a designated radius.

This is a quick prototype I created for demo purposes, the actual dashboard for the client will include more information and further analysis like branch staffing model, more detailed operation information(transactions, customer profiles, etc.), it will provide factual support for the dashboard users on making decisions like:

“Should I open/close the branch here?”

“What are the competitors’ branches here”

“If I open/close the branch here, how many clients & deposit I will gain/lose?”

“For the existing branch here, should I change the staffing model?”

…

How this is created?

The underlying data is from FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation), which has financial information for all banks in the United States, and the data is released periodically. This dashboard is using the financial information for branches, including coordinates of the branches, Parent company, bank in-state deposit & market share. Also, public census data like population density and IRS data like area adjusted gross income. By creating a parameter of searching radius, the end-user can easily find the nearby branches and their details surrounding the select branch.
